Mando is everything I can imagine myself wanting in a dog. He’s smart, has a good work ethic, and mostly he just loves me as much as I love him. I had thought I knew what a heart dog was, and then this dog came into my life and keeps showing me ways to love him more than I thought possible. I loved his sire from the first time I saw him on birds, and his back to back National Field Trial Championship wins made me even more confident in my admiration of Solo. His dam, Eve, was a great producer of dogs who live their lives as pets, sport dogs, and field trial dogs, and, after Mando’s litter, retired to a home as a pet and hunting dog. We are currently working on agility classes, and field trial training at Whisky River Gun Dogs, but we spent every day I had off last fall in the woods somewhere finding wild birds (or at a game farm). He put up a ton of woodcock, a few grouse, and some game farm pheasants and chuckar. He stayed steady, worked great, and did everything I could’ve asked him for including putting up enough woodcock that I was able to shoot 5 this year (my first wild upland birds). We hope for 2023 to bring us to an agility trial, field trial, hunt test, and maybe some wild pheasants.
