We are finally feeling something that resembles spring, although we went from a high in the mid-30’s last week to highs in the mid-80’s mid-week this week, and now are expecting highs in the 50’s with rain and maybe some snow this weekend. Over Easter weekend I picked up a new addition and I’d like to update on her and our whole crew.
We’ll start with Gigi, as one should. She’s been great and the arthritis in her hock from her injury three years ago is not bothering her after a second joint injection. She’s enjoying the weather, and is hoping to maybe spend some time disc golfing with Josh and just hanging out in the yard this summer with Domino. Domino is glad the weather is good enough that she can play ball, because ball is life. She’s living her best life and coming out of hibernation.
Mando is entered in the Minnesota Hunting Spaniel Association spring hunt test 5/6 and 5/7, and the Greater Milwaukee Poodle club and Field Spaniel Society of America hunt tests 6/3 and 6/4. I am hoping to trial him this fall as well as hunt with him again. He’s really enjoying agility and is starting to look like a real agility dog which I’m just thrilled about. We hope to do some of the fun trials at Pine Shadows this spring and train as many weekends as we can. For field trial training our goal this spring is to work on focus and control, as I think both of those things have been forgotten about because I was so worried about keeping him steady that I didn’t put much effort into the basic obedience things required for field trials. My fault, and just another thing to learn from.
Joule is turning into an adult, and I’m really liking what I’m seeing. She starts agility in a few weeks and I’m excited to see what she thinks of it. We have not done a whole lot recently because this winter was just awful, but we went to Petsmart and Dairy Queen this week and I was reminded of what a fantastic pet she is, which is really important to me because I live with my dogs in my house and like to take them places without having to put huge amounts of training into regular pet stuff. I am not sure what our other plans are, but she is going to come with when we train for field trials and see what she wants to do with that.
Kirbee is spending her weekdays at work with me for the most part, and is learning about being crated in different places. She has taken a trip to a field trial with Mando and Joule this weekend to hang out in the car and meet some people, went to agility class with Mando and met some people, and is starting some puppy classes and puppy camp for socialization in the next few weeks. We are going to work on some foundations stuff this spring and summer and see where it takes us. She’s just a doll and I’m really hopeful for a great future in field trials and other sports with her.
I am working on school to become a Certified Vet Tech, when I’m not working as a vet tech or training dogs. I wish I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up, but this feels like a step in the correct direction. I love my job, and I hope I continue to learn and grow in this position and field. Josh is still working at the hospital. We were both going to school for nursing last year, but the Minnesota Alliance for Nursing Education that was a group of colleges in the state who came together to create a nursing program with requirements that were the same across the board disbanded and each college had to create their own requirements so there was a time period where the requirements were unknown. Josh is hoping to go back to school to finish his RN and I hope to finish my CVT and then potentially continue eventually onto my CCRVN someday.
